Animation Industry

Animation industry

The animation industry in India is large & growing.
Animation, gaming & web design professionals work on full-length animation movies, create TV commercials, education CDs, games for Internet, mobile, PC or consoles (like PlayStation or Xbox), work in the advertising industry or as web designers in various companies.
The Price Waterhouse Coopers’ report on the Indian Entertainment & Media Industry estimated the Indian animation industry at Rs. 11 billion in 2006. It is forecast to grow at a rate of 22% per year & reach Rs. 29 billion by 2011. The Indian gaming industry was estimated at Rs. 2 billion in 2006 & is forecast to reach Rs. 28.5 billion by 2011 - growing at 68% per year.
Even at these impressive growth forecasts, the Indian animation & gaming industry will account for less than 2% of the worldwide market in 2010, clearly indicating a significantly larger opportunity.

3D animation

The creation of moving pictures in a 3-dimensional digital environment. It is done by sequencing consecutive images or ‘frames’ in a gradual progression of steps, filmed by a virtual ‘camera’ & then output to video by a rendering engine

2D animation

The creation of moving pictures in a 2-dimensional environment, such as through traditional cel animation or in computerized animation software.

Gaming

The creation of games for PC, Internet, mobile, consoles (such as Playstation or Xbox), etc.

Multimedia

Multimedia means ‘multiple media’ - that is, the use of more than one medium of communication. Interactive multimedia is often referred to as ‘rich media’. Multimedia is used in fine arts, entertainment, commercial art, journalism, media, designing & software services.

Web designing

A web designer creates webpages. Web designers use graphic design skills as also tools like Flash, HTML, CSS, etc. A graphic designer is responsible for the layout & presentation of different types of media (such as a poster, a package or a website), most likely with the use of a graphics software program such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or InDesign.

VFX

Animation and multimedia specialists also work with Visual Effects (VFX). The main difference between animation and VFX is that, while animation is used for prolonged timespans, VFX is a very quick – yet impactful – bit of animation.
